freakengine: (no subject)

This is just your friendly reminder that this Friday, April 4th, is the monthly FreakEngine show. This month we are celebrating the yearly holiday of japes and pranks, jokes and gags, with our Annual FreakEngine Joke Show. This month we’ll be taking time out to let you, the audience, tell some of your favorite jokes and the troupe will judge who tells the funniest and will award a really cool cash prize.
So, just in case you can’t remember, the show is this Friday, April 4th, at midnight at TheatreWorks at 2085 Monroe in Overton Square. Admission is still only $5, so if you don’t bring all your friends, you’re not just a fool, you’re a cheap fool as well.

freakengine: FreakEngine Fights Back!!!

Jack Frost can go screw himself. That’s all I have to say.
Okay. That’s not all I have to say. Because of the totally unprecedented and completely meaningless one-day snow storm we had last Friday, we were forced to do the unthinkable: we cancelled FreakEngine.
Well, we’re not the type show to let a little blizzard shut us down. So, we’ve moved this month’s show to this Friday, March 14th. Same action packed hilarity – just a week later.
So help us show Mr. Freeze who’s boss and come on out THIS Friday at Midnight to TheatreWorks at 2085 Monroe for FreakEngine’s Springapalooza – Take II. The admission is the same $5 as always, so if you don’t bring a friend, a puppy might freeze in the snow.
See you there.
Mr. Mike
p.s. – no puppies will be frozen in the making of the show.

freakengine: FreakEngine's New Year's Madness and MouseTraps

It's not too late to welcome in the New Year. At least, it's not too late the way we do it with
FreakEngine's New Year's Madness and MouseTraps.

That's right, folks. This is not your everyday, ordinary FreakEngine show filled with hilarious improv theater and surprising insanity. This is the show that you'll be talking about all year long.

We've got some of your favorite games and a few new ones that have been shown in recent studies to have almost lethal comic potential. And did someone mention MouseTraps?

Okay, sure. Perhaps it's not the traditional way to celebrate a new year, but we like to do it by playing Marco Polo blindfolded and barefoot on a stage of live mouse traps.

Admission, as always, is only $5 so don't be cheap and bring a friend. You can find the insanity at TheatreWorks on Overton Square, 2085 Monroe Avenue. The ball drops at midnight, but get there early or you might be sorry.

Sounds like fun, huh? See you there!

East End Playhouse presents Prelude to a Kiss

In time for the holidays East End Playhouse brings you Prelude to a
Kiss, a celebration of unselfish love that never dies and true love
that survives transient flesh, written by Craig Lucas and directed by
Julia Hinson. This comic and affecting fairy tale for and about
adults opens November 30th at 7 pm and continues every Friday and
Saturday through December 15th at the East End Playhouse in Lakeland,

In his fantastical romantic comedy, Mr. Lucas acknowledges much that
is defeating about civilization as we now know it, then heroically
insists on finding a reason for us to go on living anyway. Rita,
played by Aliza Moran (Twelfth Night), a bartender aspiring to be a
graphic's designer, lives in a world whose ills are all too
depressingly recognizable. Crack dealers approach first graders,
unspeakable diseases consume the bodies of the young and old, and
there is never any escape from "the constant fear of being blown up."
On the day of her wedding to Peter, Micheal Frame (Noises Off), an
unknown elderly man played by Bud Demetriou (Laughter on the 23rd
Floor) asks to kiss the bride. The unexplainable events that follow
will change Rita and the world around her forever.

Julia Hinson who serves as Education and Outreach Director at
Germantown Community Theatre orchestrates an amazing cast including
Tim Adney (Little Women) and Jenny Bledsoe (Little Women) as Rita's
slightly off center suburban parents, Eric Duerr (The Clearing) as
Peter's smart-aleck best friend, as well as Britt Watson (A Few Good
Men) and Daniel Pound (Glass Menagerie). The entire ensemble strives
to serve the delicate chemistry of a play poised between reality and
fantasy, anguish and romance. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at
the door. Seating is limited and reservations are encouraged. Make
reservations by calling (901)674-7584 or emailing arlarts@aol.com.

East End Playhouse is located in Lakeland, TN. inside suite 16 at the
Factory Outlet Mall, 3536 Canada Rd. Established in 1999, Arlington
for the Arts is a non-profit 501c(3) corporation presenting
production throughout eastern Shelby County and primarily at the East
End Playhouse since 2003.
